So last sunday was Spring Ahead, in another words we changed the time on our clocks to one hour ahead. It seems like such a simple thing to do. It only takes 10 seconds and most cell phones and computers will do it for you. There it's done time changed no sweat.
Really? This week not once have I heard the praises of this change. Many people have commented about the negative effects. "I am so tired." "My kids schedule is totally mixed up." "I don't know why they can't just leave it the same." "Maybe they could just split the difference by 30 minutes."
So the whole thing has me thinking. Thinking about change and thinking about the changes that life brings, the ones bigger than a 1 hour clock change. Thinking about the changes that we choose and those thrust upon us.
This week I see the brokenness that change brings in us simple creatures..... exhaustion, worry, anticipation, frustration, fear, and some many emotions. Emotions of the hands held tightly shut white knuckled and sore from holding on, with aching for relief. Many days my hands have ached for relief over the past few years but I just kept holding on. Lists or pros and cons, debates, planning, and prayers no pleading even begging and my still aching hands, that led to aching arms, aching shoulders, aching head, and aching heart.
What brings the relief to the heart, the head, the shoulders, the arms, the hands.....release of the hands and the simple act of turning them over and upward toward the heaven. Turning your eyes too and looking for the light of the son. He had to open his hands too. Opened them to be nailed to the cross, turned his eyes to the light in heaven and pleaded and then gave the pain to the one who can truly heal the aching heart. And what happened from those open hands on the cross and eyes on heaven.... A perfect plan....the open hands led to the perfect plan.
So today I am not pleading or begging just asking that he help me keep my hands turned open and eyes turned upward ready to receive his perfect plan and the changes that might bring.
"When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." Psalm 94:19
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
